Meet our new team member: Scott Remington #TeamHubbub

We are delighted to welcome Scott Remington CFRE to Team Hubbub as our new Digital Fundraising Specialist! 🎉

Scott previously worked as Assistant Director of Crowdfunding at Michigan State University, and Associate Director of Development at Northwestern University. At MSU, Scott developed “CrowdPower” into one of the most successful university crowdfunding programs, raising over $90,000 from 1,500 donors. Scott has also championed annual giving innovations, including MSU’s Giving Tuesday and Giving Day, the Spartan 300 Young Alumni elite club, and the launch of recurring giving.

Scott lives and breathes philanthropy in the digital and major gift space, and he has a deep understanding of the needs of higher education fundraising programs. His experience and his passion for digital fundraising will make him an excellent addition to the team.


Getting to know Scott

What’s the first thing we should know about you?

I truly believe that philanthropy is the key to many of the world’s issues. I love helping others, especially the amazing non-profit and higher education organizations that help shape tomorrow.

How would you summarize your professional experience up to now?

In a word, I would say “impactful”. I’ve really enjoyed raising funds and meeting such a variety of people from all walks of life. It’s been a lot of fun making a difference in the higher education space but also with non-profits.

Is there something that you’d like to see change in the digital fundraising realm?

Yes! I believe that digital giving should be fast, efficient, safe and reliable. Creating bottlenecks and slowing down the donor’s ability to give a gift can not only be detrimental to gift acceptance but the overall relationship with the donor.

Tell us a professional achievement that you’re proud of

I will never forget when I received the call where I was offered a job at my Alma Mater Michigan State University. MSU gave so much to me and to have the opportunity to help hundreds of students raise funds for projects that will help better their livelihood will always be treasured. I still have a picture of the first successful crowdfunding project I was able to help reach the goal.

What are you passionate about?

Helping others. From a very young age, I was always taught that you treat the janitor the same as the CEO, everyone deserves an opportunity to make a difference.

What’s the strangest talent you have?

Great question… I can kick a 40-yard field goal and have the video to prove it!

Is there one food you could eat every day?

Potato chips without a doubt, however, I’m trying the paleo lifestyle and those are currently out unfortunately. I could eat a full-size bag of Ruffles or Doritos with a smile on my face.

What would you like to be famous for?

This might sound cliché but I would love to help develop a model that ensures the most efficient way for non-profits and universities to raise funds. I’m a big believer in education and the difference it can make.

What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?

Probably playing video games. I probably walked more this summer than I have in my entire life playing Pokémon Go. I did catch them all, though! Currently playing Mass Effect: Andromeda (proud nerd alert). 

If you could interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be?

I would love to interview John D. Rockefeller. He built an incredible empire and is one of my all-time favorite philanthropists. Fun fact: he started giving at age 16.

If you could have any superpower, which would you choose?

Flying without a doubt. Living in the Midwest and now the Northeast, being able to fly somewhere warm on a whim would be fantastic.
